Everyone should be able to live in a home that meets their needs.
A few years ago, the NSW Government refused to adopt the livability standards in the 2022 National Construction Code. This means that homes are still being built in NSW that are inaccessible for people with a disability and older Australians — denying them the opportunity to belong, connect, and thrive.
But in good news, the NSW Government is now considering implementing the livability standards. This would make it easier to get into and out of homes, to navigate within homes, or to retrofit them for future needs. Simple changes, like slightly wider doors and corridors, can have profound and lasting benefits.
To help win this reform, we’re asking you to help show why this issue matters: take a picture highlighting what needs to change to improve accessibility, and we’ll share it with key decision-makers in NSW so they can see why it’s time to act.
